A friend of mine and I have had the same thing happen to us, and we both agree that the best way to deal with it is to write about it.
In a blog post titled “How to get Rid of OCD: The Best of Both Worlds,” I described what to do, what to avoid, and what to take as we tried to deal.
My advice is not to be afraid to ask questions.
It’s okay to ask yourself, “What if this is true?”
I have found that the more you can see yourself as being in a state of uncertainty and ambiguity, the better.
I think the best advice I can give is to go ahead and write, even if it’s just a paragraph or two, about the thing that you’re trying to avoid.
I’ve found that writing is easier than talking, and so my advice is to not let the conversation get into the middle of the road.
Instead, focus on writing, and ask yourself these questions: “If this is the best path I can take, how do I avoid this?”
“What do I do to help this become easier?”
“How do I minimize anxiety or discomfort?”
“Can I find a solution without going crazy?”
